The patriarchs saw God’s blessing as not only for individuals, but for future generations. As such, they took blessing very seriously, and did not bless out of their own human desires (like Jacob cursing his firstborn Reuben). It is through the blessing of the 12 tribes that Israel became a strong nation. Since we are called to participate in God’s divine nature, we have a duty to bless & be channels of blessing.

Through Jesus, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, we inherit the blessings of the 12 tribes – leadership, fruitfulness, skill in warfare, willingness to serve, authority and the like.
